Participants will learn how to deploy Living Your Best Life (with Diabetes) in their own communities, virtually!
Living Your Best Life (with Diabetes) is an interactive curriculum focused on helping people with diabetes and pre-diabetes more fully understand their condition and learn how to THRIVE each and every day by engaging in positive self-management strategies.
This training is ideal for providers, nurses, care coordinators, outreach workers, medical assistants, front desk staff, or anyone who has interest in facilitating patients with diabetes in their self-management journey.
Goals of the Living Your Best Life (with Diabetes) curriculum include:
- Improving and maintaining the quality of life of persons with pre-diabetes and existing diabetes
- Preventing complications and incapacities
- Improving eating habits and maintaining adequate nutrition
- Increasing physical activity
- Developing self-care skills
- Improving the relationship between patients and health care providers
- Utilizing available resources

SPEAKER:
Teresa Hicks, RDE, CDE
Teresa Hicks is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, a registered dietitian and a Native Montanan. She has spent the last 25 years working in tribal and rural health.
Teresa travels throughout Alaska and Montana talking to people with diabetes, listening to people’s thoughts and concerns about health in their community, and teaching community health workers about diabetes and chronic disease prevention.
Teresa has written multiple health curriculums, including curriculums on nutrition and diabetes for Indian Health Service and the American Diabetes Association. Her curriculum and nationally award-winning course The Advanced Diabetes Health Aide Course has been offered continuously for the last 20 years throughout the state of Alaska. Teresa has received national awards for her work with community health workers in 2005, 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
